What is an organic cotton topsheet?
It is the top layer of the pad, the only layer that touches your skin. In every Blossom Wings pad it is made of organic cotton instead of a synthetic material. Beneath it sit airlaid paper, an absorbent core and a polyethylene backsheet. Our pads are fragrance-free with no added dyes, and GALAB screened them for nine chemical families, with none detected in the samples tested. We do not claim organic textile certification.
Why does pad material matter?
Most women never ask what their period products are actually made of. The packaging never tells you. The brands rarely talk about it. And yet, period care touches some of the most sensitive, absorbent skin on the human body, every month, for decades.
That's why what your pad is made of matters. Here's what we use, why, and how it's been verified.
Organic cotton topsheet
"Organic cotton" isn't a marketing word for us. The layer that touches your skin is organic cotton, and we publish the independent lab results behind it.

Why this matters for your body
What touches your skin
The topsheet is the only layer that touches your skin. Many conventional pads use a plastic-feel synthetic top sheet there. Ours is organic cotton, the layer that touches you.
Softness
Cotton against skin feels like cotton against skin. Many synthetic pads use polypropylene or polyester top layers that feel scratchy or rubbery, particularly on Day 4 or 5 when skin is already sensitive.
No added fragrance, no added dyes
Conventional pads often contain fragrances, dyes, and chemical residues from manufacturing. Added fragrance is one of the most common triggers of vulvar irritation. Our organic cotton topsheet carries no added fragrance and no added dyes, and independent screening confirmed what is not in it.
No fragrance, by design
Most period products use synthetic fragrance to mask odor. The problem: fragrance ingredients are rarely disclosed, so you can't check what's sitting against your skin. Our products are 100% fragrance-free. Cleanliness shouldn't smell like flowers, it should smell like nothing.
No detectable heavy metals
Independent laboratory testing by GALAB Laboratories in Hamburg found no detectable lead, cadmium, mercury or chromium in our pads (report P2024119776-01, April 2024). Heavy metals accumulate in the body and are rarely screened for in this category.
Formaldehyde-free
Independent laboratory testing confirms our pads contain no detectable formaldehyde. This is meaningful: formaldehyde is a known irritant sometimes found in textile manufacturing, and we've designed it out of our supply chain entirely.
No fluorescent whitening agents
Many conventional pads use optical brighteners, chemical agents that make products appear whiter than they really are. Lab testing confirms our pads contain no fluorescent whitening agents. What you see is the real color of the organic cotton, with nothing added to whiten it.
What testing has confirmed
Our 330mm Organic Cotton Night Pad has been independently lab-tested against international hygiene safety standards (GB 15979-2002 and GB/T 8939-2018, the same standards applied to leading global brands). Every metric passed, many by significant margins.

Why this matters for the planet
Every disposable pad, ours included, has an absorbent core and a plastic backsheet that do not break down quickly in landfill. We will not pretend otherwise.
What we changed is the layer that touches you: our topsheet is organic cotton, a plant fibre, instead of a synthetic one. Our pads are individually wrapped, fragrance-free with no added dyes, and we publish what every layer is made of.
