How we test our products (and what it proves)
Short answer: independent labs measured our pads for absorbency, absorption speed, pH, formaldehyde, fluorescent whiteners and microbial hygiene (Intertek, to GB/T 8939-2018 and GB 15979-2002, January 2025), and screened them for contaminants such as formaldehyde and alkylphenols (GALAB, Hamburg, EDANA programme, April 2024). Results: 42 times its weight in 34 seconds for the 260mm day pad, 50 times in 27 seconds for the 330mm night pad, pH 7.4 to 7.6, and nothing detected in the contaminant screen. It's easy to put a reassuring word on a box. It's harder, and more honest, to test the product and show what came back. Here's what testing actually covers, and what it tells you.
What a real test checks
Independent testing of a pad against international hygiene standards looks at concrete, measurable things, not vibes. The meaningful ones include:
- Absorbency: how much fluid the pad holds, and how fast it absorbs.
- Formaldehyde: a chemical you do not want near your skin.
- Optical brighteners (fluorescent whitening agents): additives used to make products look whiter than they are.
- pH: whether the surface sits in a skin-friendly range.
- Hygiene: that the product is clean and free of harmful bacteria.
Each of those is a number with a pass/fail line. That's what makes a test more useful than a slogan.
What ours has been measured against
Our pads have been independently lab-tested against international hygiene safety standards (GB 15979-2002 and GB/T 8939-2018, the kind of standards applied to leading global brands). Across the measures above, the results came back clean:
- High absorbency, well beyond the minimum the standard requires: 42 times the pad's weight for the 260mm day pad and 50 times for the 330mm night pad, against a required minimum of 7 times.
- No formaldehyde detected.
- No optical brighteners detected: the colour you see is the natural colour of the cotton, not a chemical trick.
- A skin-friendly pH of 7.4 (day pad) and 7.6 (night pad), inside the 4.0 to 9.0 range.
- Passed hygiene checks for bacteria and contaminants.
Why we say it this way
We deliberately describe what was tested and what passed, rather than reducing it to a single badge. Numbers you can understand build more trust than a logo you can't verify. As more of our range is tested, we'll report that here too.

Who tests Blossom Wings pads?
Two independent laboratories. Intertek tested absorbency, absorption speed, pH, formaldehyde, fluorescent whiteners and microbial hygiene (reports ZHCJ25000149006, 007 and 008, January 2025). GALAB Laboratories in Hamburg ran a contaminant screen within the EDANA stewardship programme (report P2024119776-01, April 2024).
What do the absorbency numbers mean?
"42 times its weight" means the pad held 42 grams of liquid per gram of pad in the standard test. The hygiene standard requires at least 7 times. Absorption speed is how long a set volume takes to disappear below the surface: 34 seconds for the 260mm day pad and 27 seconds for the 330mm night pad, against a limit of 60 seconds.
What does the GALAB screen cover?
Formaldehyde, alkylphenols and their ethoxylates, and a range of other contaminants relevant to absorbent hygiene products. None were detected in the samples tested. A separate Intertek report covered heavy metals, titanium dioxide and PFAS, and an EU REACH SVHC screen found no substances of very high concern.

Is every product tested?
All three pad sizes have their own Intertek report. The Comfort Panties have not yet been lab tested as a separate product; we will say so until they are.
