This guide explains what actually triggers irritation, what to look for on a pack, and which size suits which day.
What we leave out, and why it matters
An organic cotton layer against the skin
The only layer that touches your skin is organic cotton, on every product in the range, not only in one special line. Synthetic covers may feel smooth at first, but they can hold warmth and moisture against the skin, which can lead to redness or itching, especially after a long day.
Every pad in our range is fragrance-free
Added fragrance is one of the most common triggers for vulvar irritation, and it is often used to mask odour. At Blossom Wings, every one of our pads is free from added fragrance, without exception. So you will not have to hunt for a fragrance-free pad from us, or check the pack every time you restock.
Breathable rather than sealed
Cotton allows far more air to move through the surface layer rather than sealing it in. That tends to matter most across long days in heat, when trapped warmth can soften skin and make friction damage more likely. Breathability is a comfort feature for most women, and can be a skin-protection feature if you react easily.
Independently screened to confirm what is not in them
Our pads underwent independent screening at GALAB Laboratories in Hamburg, under the EDANA programme, per report P2024119776-01. The screening covered formaldehyde, alkylphenols and alkylphenol ethoxylates, alongside other substances, and none of them were detected in the samples tested. The report is available on request, because we would rather give you the full evidence than settle for a slogan on the pack.
Absorbency measured, not just claimed
Independent Intertek testing recorded the 260mm day pad absorbing 42 times its own weight in 34 seconds, and the 330mm night pad 50 times its weight in 27 seconds. Faster absorption can mean less time with liquid sitting at the surface, which is the part that tends to matter most for skin that is already irritated.
Made in facilities that meet medical-device manufacturing standards
Our pads are manufactured in an ISO 13485-certified and FDA-registered facility, and carry a CE mark under EU MDR 2017/745 as a Class I device. SABER certificate 89012-113-26-2430520 is issued to Blossom Wings for the Saudi market and is valid to 11 May 2027.
Which one will you choose?
A wingless everyday pad for light days, the beginning and end of a period, and daily backup. Thirty to a pack, so it is the size most people restock rather than ration.
The standard day pad, tested by Intertek at 42 times its weight in 34 seconds. Suits a normal flow day and long stretches away from home.
Extra length for lying down, tested at 50 times its weight in 27 seconds. It is also the size many women choose for their heaviest day, not only for nights.
Frequently asked questions
What actually causes pad irritation?
Three things account for most cases: added fragrance, a synthetic surface that can trap heat and moisture, and friction over long wear. Skin that stays warm and damp tends to soften and abrade more easily, so choosing a breathable surface and a fragrance-free product can remove two of the three variables before you change anything else.
Is organic cotton the same as a cotton-feel surface?
They are different claims. Cotton-feel describes how a synthetic surface feels and says nothing about what the fibre actually is. An organic cotton topsheet means the surface layer is cotton. If your skin reacts to synthetics that distinction is the whole point, and it is worth checking which of the two a pack is claiming.
Are Blossom Wings pads fragrance-free?
Yes, across the entire range. There is no scented variant, so there is nothing to check when you restock. Added fragrance is among the most common triggers for vulvar irritation, which is why it is excluded from every product rather than from one sensitive line.
What is actually inside the pad?
An organic cotton topsheet, an airlaid layer that pulls liquid away from the surface, a super-absorbent core, a breathable back sheet, a skin-safe adhesive and a release paper. We publish the full layer list on our ingredients page rather than describing it in general terms.
Should I see a doctor about period skin irritation?
If irritation is persistent or painful, or is accompanied by a rash, unusual discharge or a change in odour, see a doctor rather than simply switching brands. A pad free of some of the common irritation triggers may help, but it cannot diagnose the cause of your symptoms. Mild redness after a long, hot day can happen, but symptoms that persist or recur warrant medical assessment.
Which size should I start with?
Most women start with the 260mm day pad, then use the 330mm for nights and heavier-flow days. If your flow is light, or you are looking for light everyday protection, the 180mm suits that, and the pack comes with 30 pads.
